Designer Discovery – Wafa by Wafa

Wafa began her fashion career early – on graduation from high school in Dubai she spent a year working at a local design house in Sri Lanka. Working under designers who supplied clothes to well-known retail chains such as Victoria’s Secret and Banana Republic, Wafa gained an invaluable insight into the fashion industry. In 2002 she took her love of fashion to the next step and enrolled at the prestigious Parson’s School of Design in New York. She attended Parsons alongside colleagues such as Alexander Wang, Brandon Sun and Nima Teharazadeh, each further sparking the competitive spirit in her and keeping her on her toes. A stint spent working under Jill Stuart gave her an enhanced understanding and appreciation for the various facets of the fashion industry, and one that remains with her to this day.
In 2008 Wafa returned to Dubai. Her aim: to not just talk the talk of her design philosophy. To this end she followed her dream and established her own clothing label. In 2010 Saifi took the collection a step further when she showed internationally at Miami Fashion Week. Since launching her eponymous clothing label in 2009 Wafa
has had successful shows at multiple venues including Miami Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week and a particularly special one for the preview of the ‘Sex and the City 2’ movie at Nikki Beach in Miami.
After the success of the clothing label, Wafa bring you her exclusive jewelry line ‘wafa by wafa’, that caters to the same global citizen of the world. Not overtly trend-conscious, but rather, influenced in style by travel and experience.
The ‘wafa by wafa’ pieces represent the duality present in each one of us, a juxtaposition of the softer, sensitive, feminine side within us against the bolder more edgy one. They are pieces that a versatile and will speak to every woman that puts them on. Still very much driven by her multi cultural upbringing and extensive travels, Wafa presents her take on jewelry for the modern woman.

Her latest collection, ‘Nomadic Verses’ is an ode to the nomad within us all; the drifter, the gypsy.
From the Maasai of Kenya to the Akha of Burma, the collection is inspired by tribal culture and the transiency of today’s world. She brings to life a collection of narratives through the pieces.
The wafabywafa line is an amalgamation of the different facets of our personalities; yogi meets glamazon, jetsetter meets bohemian romantic.

Here are a few gorgeous picks from her latest collection.
