Name: Simona Kreivenaite El-Fiky
Age: 26
Title: Founder, Creative Director

How/why did you get into the business of jewelry design?
I loved making jewelry since I was a child, but the greatest break-through happened when I came to Egypt and experienced Arab culture for the first time. Since then my heart was set, fascinated and overwhelmed by the rich cultural, historical, spiritual and even ethical presence. It gave me such an inspiration boost! With the great encouragement and support from my husband, SIMO trademark was launched in 2012 together with my first official jewelry collection.

Where do you find inspiration in crafting and designing?
Arab culture remains my main source of inspiration. There’s such a great amount of Islamic art, history, architecture, not mentioning the beautiful Arab countries landscape, where the desserts meet the seas! Every time I find something new, something that takes my breath away!

Jewelry is such a crowded field; how do you define your work and make it stand out amid all the choices?
First, all of my designs are one piece only which makes them absolutely unique. Second, each of my pieces is designed and fully handcrafted by myself giving attention to every single detail. I use my favorite crochet technique to combine different hand selected materials such as metal chains, cotton, crystals and semi-precious stones. And the last but not the least, every single piece I make carries my warmth, you can surely feel that wearing it.

What’s your favorite piece of your own jewelry?
Every piece has it’s story, it would be hard to choose one, I love it all, each piece is special!

Love the soft pink.

What is it like being a working mom? How do you balance everything?
That is so easy! My main rule of balance is – my family is my first priority, This solves everything! One of the greatest advantages of my work is that I can easily manage my own time.

What do you hope for the future? Any new big projects on the horizon?
In shaa Allah (God willing) I hope for best! I always have big ideas on my mind and every day something new happens – new collaborations, projects, etc.
In shaa Allah I am planning to introduce a special change in my designs inspired by Qatar and the Gulf Area!
Can’t tell more – don’t want to ruin the surprise!

What tips do you have for aspiring jewelry designers?
Most important be original, find something you truly love in the first place. Work only with high quality materials. Don’t expect to succeed overnight, work hard and be sincere.

Describe your ideal day
There is no absolute perfection in this life.
As a Muslim I value each day as a blessing from Allah and say “alhamdulelah” (all praise is due to God) for everything. Every day is a second chance. Every morning I wake up, I get one more chance to learn, improve and do my best. In everything.
We all plan tomorrow as if it’s guaranteed, but the key is today, we live today, today is the ideal day.
