I was recently invited to London, to view the AW Collection by Karen Millen.

My history with the brand starts many years ago, when I was a student, I also worked as a bar tender, and all the tips I received would go into my Karen Millen fund, ultimately to buy each month a dress, conveniently the store was around the corner from my work, so it’s fair to say, it’s a brand I love and admire.

Fast forward to London – I arrived and was whisked away to the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel in Central London, on arrival I discovered the sweetest treats in my suite, however it was the views that really got me, stunning park with the backdrop of London, I was already excited for the dinner that evening.

That evening I headed to the Thomas Cubbit restaurant to meet the Karen Millen team and the other influencers who had been invited from the Asia / Middle East region, we dined privately and indulged in some delicious cuisine, which had typically British vibes with modern twists, it was lovely to meet the team and hear more about the brand from those that work inside.

Most of us were tired from the flight that day, so we left after dinner and headed back to the hotel to rest up for the preview the next day.

At 10.30am sharp the car arrived to pick me up, I was taken to 32 Portland Place,an absolutely stunning venue, with beauty and rawness, it’s one of those places that holds so much character and history.

When all the influencers arrived we were shown around the different rooms of the house. The first room held racks of the new collection, the one thing which came to mind was textures, I could see so many in the designs, my attention was grabbed by a faux fur jacket, which felt beautifully real.

The next room housed the accessories, as a shoe and bag self-confessed addict, I was in heaven, leopard print played a part in some designs, I saw a lot of textures in the bags, from mock ostrich to croc, and the bags as always remained classic and functional, perfect for all Women.

I ventured up the blue stairs to the third room which housed live models wearing the full collection, the perfect way visually to see the entire collection together, the looks reflected the personalities of many women, from those who love 70’s vibes, to those that love a bit of rock and funk, sports elements and metallic tones played a huge part too, it was lovely to walk around, see the movement of the clothes on the models and be able to vision, what the pieces would look like on me.

Overall the presentation was beautiful, I was impressed how the KM team transformed 32 Portland place into a beautiful cosy place to host the event.

After the presentation we headed to the Covent Garden KM store for a spot of shopping, as usual spoilt for choice, I ended up taking a beautiful blue dress with the prettiest detail on the arms and hemline, a dress I was told later by the Creative Director, Gemma Metheringham, took a lot of work to make.

After all the excitement of the morning it was time to chill and indulge in some treats.

We went to Balthazar where we indulged in a collaboration Afternoon tea with Bobbi Brown, stands of makeup inspired cakes, scones and delightful sandwiches were brought to us, washed down with good old English Tea, a perfect way to end the afternoon.

That evening we all headed to a super cool house and bar called ‘The Social eating House’ again we indulged (you know I love my food) it was delicious, served in a tapas / sharing style we had lots of jars and boards full of the yummiest of treats, the truffle fries were amazing and the macaroni cheese, quite possibly the best I’ve ever had, I will be back on my next London trip that’s for sure.

The last day arrived and we headed to the Karen Millen Head Quarters, where we met Gemma Metheringham, the creative force behind the brand, we had a fantastic Q&A session with her, along with getting to know more about the brand, what fascinated me, was that the atelier was based within the offices, from sketch to actually putting the design together, it all happens there.

I very much enjoyed the Atelier section, watching the seamstresses work, seeing the designers with sketches all over the desks, its where the magic happens, where the story of a design starts.

I also saw the Atelier collection which we will get in Qatar ready for Ramadan, the emerald dress was a major favourite of mine, it had such vintage flair, its fair to say, when I snapped the collection, so many were screenshotting the images asking me when they would arrive to Doha, I cannot wait either.

Loved this vintage style dress.

The trip gave me insight into a Brand I love, thanks very much for having me Karen Millen, I’ll be rocking the A/W collection later this year.
