I am so looking forward to my Summer escape…
Each year I head to my Husbands birth place which is Madeira Island, the Island is about 1.5 hours from the Portuguese Capital Lisbon, this summer will be extra special, as the house my husband has been working so hard to create and finish and will finally be ready to live in.

Let me tell you a little bit more about Madeira…

Madeira is stunning, from the small colourful capital of the country Funchal, to the beautiful mountains. In the morning you can chill out at the beach, and the afternoon you can be driving to the mountains and literally into the clouds…

The city of Funchal is small and so cute, its a great place to walk around and discover, if your a shopaholic though, its not the best place, there are 3 main malls which I go to, however I never did get excited with any of the stores, and was hoping to see more cooler independent boutiques, which for me makes sense as its a touristic island, maybe this could be a good idea for me in the future to open my own 🙂
There are good options for dining, especially in the city, if you venture out into the smaller towns the food is more local, however there are alot of places to dine, a must try is the ‘Bolo do Caco’ this is traditional bread with loads of garlic and butter, seriously yummy!

Madeira is the place to go either for relaxation, or to be active, there are so many ‘Levadas’ these are small canal ways in the mountains, which carries the water from the north to the south side of the island, the Levada walk is a beautiful way to get in natural fresh air and to exercise, or if your super fit, mountain bikes are available for hire, and trust me, the views from the mountains are out of this world.

Next to Madeira lies another Island, alot smaller, but this place is my little ‘paradise’ its called Porto Santo and its a 2 hour ferry ride from Funchal, it has 9km of soft golden sand its a bather’s paradise, Many people say that there’s nothing to do in Porto Santo besides going to the beach, well that’s more or less true, but when you see you are facing that wonderful golden sand, kissed by crystal clear waters, you will be the first to say, “This is the life. I just want to lie here and do nothing”!

Porto Santo, pure bliss!

My Husband has a beautiful villa located 10 minutes walk to the beach, this is rented to tourists over the year
so if anyone is interested in considering a vacation in Madeira & Porto Santo, do contact me, and I can certainly help with beautiful accommodation, I would recommend 1 week in Madeira and 1 week in Porto Santo, I am sure anyone who visited would find it incredibly beautiful.
